Position Details: Gustavus Adolphus College invites applications for a full-time one-year position of Visiting Instructor in the Department of Nursing to begin August 15, 2024. The planned teaching assignment for this position is 4 course equivalents (0.57 FTE), however the successful candidate my teach up to 2 additional course equivalents, depending on the interest and qualifications of the successful candidate and the needs of the College.

Things you will do:

  • Teach 4 course sections during the academic year. Typically, 2 in the Fall and 2 in the Spring. Primary teaching responsibilities may include: Medical Surgical Nursing, Public Health, Research and Ethics in the Health Sciences, Pre-health Professions, Fundamentals (skills lab), and/or Transitions to Professional Practice (precepted clinical).
  • Help cultivate a welcoming community where everyone feels a sense of belonging. We strive to foster an environment where people can be themselves, build community, learn, and grow.

Things you can choose to do:

  • Improve your teaching by joining a teaching circle, participating in workshops, applying for an internal teaching development grant, and engaging in conversations about teaching with colleagues across campus.
  • Advance your scholarship by working with undergraduate research assistants, joining a writing retreat, applying for an internal grant, receiving travel funds to present at conferences, receiving help applying for external grants, and making use of our research facilities.
  • Develop professional skills by participating in faculty meetings and committees, attending faculty development days, and taking advantage of the College’s membership to the National Center for Faculty Development and Diversity (NCFDD).

Prerequisites

What’s required:

  • Master’s degree in nursing or a closely related field (MSN, Nursing Education preferred)
  • Active registered nurse license (active Minnesota Registered Nurse licensure required at time of appointment)

What’s preferred:

  • Evidence of effectiveness in teaching
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate students
  • Prior experience as a professional nurse relevant to areas of teaching responsibilities
  • Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds and a demonstrated commitment to pedagogical methods that enable students across racial, ethnic, and socio-economic groups to reach their maximum potential
