The Rhythm of Gustavus

 
 

College students go through incredible growth and change. Although each student is different, there are some general patterns to highs and lows of the college year. Likewise there are patterns contingent on whether the student is a first-year, sophomore, junior or senior. As a parent or guardian it can be frustrating when you want to help but you don't know the best way how. Understanding where your son or daughter is coming from is just half the battle.

Here are the patterns typically seen during certain times of the academic year.
The Rhythm of First-Year Students
Provided are some common challenges that students may face while adjusting to college life their first year.
The Rhythm of Sophomore Students
Provided are some common challenges that students may face during the Sophomore Experience, such as the "Sophomore Slump."
The Rhythm of Junior Students
Provided are some common challenges that students may face in the Junior year as they are obtaining experiencing, getting involved and preparing for the future.
The Rhythm of Senior Students
Provided are some common challenges that students may face as Seniors are evaluating their future plans.

The 135-acre arboretum is laid out like the state of Minnesota. The south tier of the arboretum is designed to be like the southern part of Minnesota, with native prairie grasses and wild flowers. The central tier is planted with deciduous trees and the north tier with conifers.
