Physical and Emotional Health

It is wise to include health issues as part of the regular conversation with your student. College students often do not live a balanced life, with too little sleep and many pressures. You may notice many physical and emotional changes in your student while he or she is at college. Here is some general information to to help you talk with your student about physical and emotional health.

Physical Health
Gustavus has a Health Service in the Jackson Campus Center with a mission to provide care and/or referral for acute medical injuries and illnesses and to educate students on health-related issues.

Students are welcome to use the Human Performance Lab to have a full-fitness assessment.

Emotional Health
Gustavus has a Counseling Center in the Johnson Student Union. At times, students experience personal, relational, social, or academic difficulties which they cannot fully resolve on their own, and find it helpful to talk to a professional counselor about their concerns. Disability Services
Resources are available to students to accommodate temporary or permant physical, psychological, and learning disabilities.

Peer Assistants
The Peer Assistants are a group of students committed to promoting healthy, productive lifestyles at Gustavus Adolphus College. They present workshops on topics related to alcohol and drug education and physical and emotional health.
