Lucia Singers and St. Ansgar’s Chorus Share Sunday Schedule

The Lucia Singers and the St. Ansgar’s Chorus, from the Department of Music at Gustavus Adolphus College, are scheduled for solo performances in Christ Chapel on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 11. The Lucia Singers (women’s chorus) opens with Conductor Patricia Snapp at 1:30 p.m. Conductor Timothy O’Brien leads the men’s chorus in a 7:30 p.m. performance in Christ Chapel. Both performances are free and open to the public.

The Lucia Singer’s annual Mother’s Day performance opens with Antonio Vivaldi’s Laudate Dominum and Felix Mendelssohn’s Lift Thine Eyes. It continues with Salmo by Brazilian composer Ernani Aguir. The performance includes works by J.S. Bach, Orlando Gibbons and the spiritual Listen to the Angels Shouting, arranged by Dlifton J. Noble, Jr. It ends with the Quaker hymn How Can I Keep From Singing and Cy Coleman’s Rhythm of Life.

The evening performance at 7:30 p.m. by the St. Ansgar’s Chorus opens with Africa by William Billings and Jordan’s Shore from the Southern Harmony and Musical Companion. With the help of the New Originals and The Gustavus Consort, the men’s chorus continues with performances of the traditional Vive L’Amour, Quam Pulchra Es by John Dunstable and Sergei Rachmaninoff’s Bogoroditse Devo, followed by a set of three works commissioned by the St. Ansgar’s Chorus, O Adiutor, Loquebantur Variis and Jerusalem Luminosa. The concert concludes with works by Leo Friedman, Les Applegate/Joe Goodwin/George Meyer, Pavelv Tchesnekov and Bradley Ellingboe.

Both performance in Christ Chapel on Sunday are free and open to the public.
