Gustavus Adolphus College

Three student recitals are scheduled for Saturday, March 11 in Bjorling Recital Hall on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus in St. Peter. The day of music includes performances by Erin Crimmins, flute, Jonathan Grimsby, trumpet, Mark Iverson, euphonium, Kate Neely, flute and Amanda Nehotte, flute.

Erin Crimmins opens the afternoon with a solo flute recital accompanied by Beth Winterfeldt at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Crimmins, a senior chemistry and Spanish major from Edina and a student of Ruth Giles, will begin her program with Bach’s Sonata in G minor, KWV 1020, followed by Carl Reinecke’s Sonata Undine, Op. 167. Her program concludes with Beethoven’s Grand Trio for Flutes as she is joined by flutists Sharon Jaffe and Brittany Krusemark. Crimmins will also present three works for voice with a distincly Irish air: Believe Me, If All Those Endearing Young Charms, My Little Kerry Cow and Dear Harp of my Country!

At 3:30, seniors Jonathan Grimsby, trumpet and Mark Iverson, euphonium, will present a joint recital on the Bjorling stage. Grimsby, an Edina native accompanied by pianist Phil Sowden, will open the recital with Bach’s French Suite #1, Persichetti’s The Hollow Men, and Shakhov’s Scherzo. Iverson, who comes to Gustavus from Littleton, Colorado, is accompanied by Coni Liljengren, piano. He will present three works for ephonium: De Luca’s Beautiful Colorado, Horovitz Euphonium Concerto and Dewhurst’s Panache. The two musicians will close the program with a Herbert L. Clarke duet titled Cousins.

A joint flute recital at 7:30 p.m. by Kate Neely and Amanda Nehotte concludes this day of music in Bjorling Recital Hall. Neely, a senior English major from Pinedale, Wyoming, opens the recital with a performance of Vivaldi’s Concerto in D Major, accompanied by Lindsey Reimnitz, piano. She will also present Harty’s In Ireland “Fantasy”. Amanda Nehotte, a junior music major from Finlayson, Minnesota. She will present the solo flute work, Reflections, by Katherine Hoover and the four-movement Suite Modale by Ernest Bloch, accompanied by pianist Britt Forsberg. The two flutists will join together with an ensemble of dancers to present Luis Alberto Valencia’s 3 Short Ecuadorian Pieces to conclude the recital.

All three performances are free, open to the public and will be followed by a reception for the musicians.
