Jed Friedrich
Jed Friedrich will begin his fifth season as the head men's and women's Nordic skiing coach at Gustavus. The women's Nordic ski squad recorded its highest finish ever in the Central Collegiate Ski Association (CCSA) by posting a second place finish. Three skiers qualified for the NCAA Skiing Championships for the first time in program history as the Gusties finished in 18th place. For his efforts, Friedrich was named the CCSA Women's Nordic Ski Coach of the Year.
During his tenure, Friedrich's squad has never finished lower than fourth in the CCSA standings, which include NCAA Division I, II, and III institutions. Friedrich and his team have also won two consecutive Minnesota Collegiate Championships. He has worked with two All-CCSA skiers, four NCAA participants, and one Academic All-American.
Friedrich, a St. Cloud native and 2003 graduate of Northern Michigan University, was a two-time all-state honoree in nordic skiing at St. Cloud Apollo High School. He enrolled at Northern Michigan University in the fall of 1999 and was a member of the Central Region Championship teams in 1999, 2000 and 2001. He received All-America Scholar honors from the Nordic Ski Coaches Association in 2000. Friedrich served as an assistant at his alma mater in 2002 and accepted a teaching a coaching position at Herman-Norcross Community school in 2003. While there, he taught health and physical education and served as the assistant girls' volleyball coach, assistant boy's basketball coach and assistant track and field coach.
Friedrich is also the head men's and women's cross country coach. Friedrich was a three-time all-conference performer in cross country and track and field at St. Cloud Apollo High School.
Jed and his wife, Jennie, live in St. Peter with their daughter, Keira.
